You’ve heard of silent auctions and online auctions. You like to think of yourself as a money-saving pro, but even this one is a new one…
…So, what on earth is a unique auction?!
Like the other auction websites you see out there, you can get great discounts on stuff if you play your cards right. However, in a unique auction, the way you actually win stuff like Macy’s gift cards, Sony cameras, and iPhones is totally different.
Like any other online auction, if you want to take part in a unique auction, you have to buy bid credits beforehand. (And, in most cases, you’ll have to by those credits in packages.) So, every time you place a bid, you’ll be spending a little bit of money.
That’s where the similarities end, though.
Instead of each bid increasing the price of the item, it actually DECREASES the price! That’s how unique auction sites can offer products for so much less than a traditional retail site. The winner of a unique auction actually comes up with the lowest and unique bid – meaning that they put in a bid that was closest to zero, that wasn’t duplicated by anyone else. So, if two people bid $1, but only one person bid $2, the person that bid $2 would win, because his was the lowest and unique bid.
How do you know when the auction is over?
That depends on the website itself.
In some cases, you may be dealing with a limited auction – meaning that the website will only accept a certain number of bids for the product. If that’s the case, you’ll know right upfront. So, whoever makes the last bid, wins!
More often than not, though, unique auctions are timed. So, you’ll have until the clock hits zero to make the lowest bid.
There’s a trick, though. You won’t be able to see what anyone else is bidding! So, you’ll have to guess if you should keep bidding, or whether you’re safe to stay where you’re at. Just remember – the difference between winning and losing can be a few cents, or a few seconds! Are you willing to miss out on a huge discount because you didn’t click “bid” one last time?
Bottom line – you have to be smart to win a unique auction. However, you also have to be lucky to win one of these auctions, too! Even if you don’t always win, the experience will be an adrenaline rush that you won’t be able to get on any other online auction site!
